About Christianity

The central theme of the Bible is God’s love for you and for all people. This love was revealed most fully when Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came into the world as a human being, lived a sinless life, died on the cross, and rose from the dead. Because Christ died, your sins can be forgiven, and because He conquered death you can have eternal life. You can know for sure what will become of you after you die.

You have probably heard the story of God’s love referred to as the ‘Gospel’. The word Gospel simply means ‘Good News’. The Gospel is the Good News that, because of what Christ has done, we can be forgiven and can live forever. But this gift of forgiveness and eternal life is only known by those who willingly accept it. God requires a personal response from you.

The Bible describes that response with two words: repentance and faith.

Repentance means turning around – choosing to start going God’s way rather than our own way. It is recognising that however good or bad a job we may have felt we have done in living our life, we are all imperfect. No-one is able to match God’s glory, his perfect standard in our own strength. Hard though it may be, we need to swallow our pride, say sorry and seek the help of God’s Holy Spirit to live better.

Faith means trusting God – believing his wonderful promises that he will forgive us freely and completely when we truly turn to Him – that he will accept us and make us his children – that one day he will welcome us into heaven to enjoy eternity with him.

Repentance and faith bring about a wonderful change in us. We find purpose and fulfilment in knowing God now and hope and strength for the future. There is no catch, no hidden cost to us. Jesus made it possible when he willingly gave his life for you on the cross.

Now, he invites you to have a personal relationship with Him. Whoever you are, whatever you may have done in the past, he promises: “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.” Revelation 3:20 (NIV)

The Christian life is a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. You can talk to him and hear him speak to you through prayer at any time and in any place. Best of all, it is a relationship that will last for all eternity.
